The goldsmiths’ experience, knowledge, understanding of materials and attention to detail all come together in the Wellendorff manufactory.
Made from the finest gold, silver and copper, the Wellendorff alloy is melted according to a secret family formula. The key difference lies in the details: while 18-karat gold conventionally contains 750 parts of pure gold for every 1000 parts, Wellendorff’s master goldsmiths add two additional parts of pure gold, thereby creating an “over-alloying” that gives each piece of jewellery a special exclusive touch.
Every Wellendorff ring spins. This requires experience and exceptional precision from the goldsmiths, who work to the nearest one-hundredth of a millimetre. Only through this meticulous craftsmanship is it possible for the rings to continue to spin effortlessly and smoothly for many years to come, thereby preserving their unique character.
Only the highest quality diamonds are used in Wellendorff's jewellery. The art of gem setting itself requires years of experience: each stone is precisely secured by hand with just two gold beads so that minimal gold surrounds the diamond, allowing it to reveal its full brilliance.
The manufactory’s jewellery shines in the colours of the specially developed Wellendorff cold enamel. It is skilfully applied in layers by hand under the microscope and carefully dried. What makes it special is this: Wellendorff cold enamel is rigorously tested under numerous procedures and will follow the natural expansion of gold. All to ensure that the colours provide a lifetime of enjoyment.
Individual levels of engraving are worked into the pieces of jewellery using the best tools and highest precision down to the nearest one-hundredth of a millimetre. The engravings give the piece of jewellery its depth, allowing the Wellendorff cold enamel that has been applied to shine in a magical way.
The Guardian Angel engraving on the inside of Wellendorff rings and amulets is a reminder of the profound meaning of jewellery – to give its wearer the comforting feeling of being accompanied and protected.
In the iconic Wellendorff rope, the 18-karat gold is as soft as silk. It is the result of a technique developed by Hanspeter Wellendorff in 1977: like in a fairy tale, 18-karat gold is spun into very fine gold threads that are hand-twisted into flexible ropes.
A technical feat of craftsmanship: after 17 years of development, the master goldsmiths successfully crafted bracelets from flexible 18-karat gold. The structure of the gold had to be altered to make it twice as flexible as standard gold.
Only after strict quality control does a piece of jewellery receive the signature of the Diamond-W – Wellendorff's unmistakable trademark. It stands for the highest quality goldsmithing from Pforzheim. Set in 18-karat gold with a full-cut diamond, it is undoubtedly one of the most precious trademarks there is.
Only recycled, certified gold is used in Wellendorff's jewellery. And that has been the case since 1893.
