Since 1893, mindfulness and a responsible approach to raw materials, the environment, employees and customers have been a key part of our activities and family history. Everything that we do is authentic and sustainable - interpersonal and business relationships included.
For Wellendorff, sustainability is not a marketing initiative or PR measure. On the contrary, we live and breathe sustainability, adopting a holistic approach to it. Our customers can always expect us, as a family, to act responsibly and sustainably, in line with our philosophy of Genuine Values and FROM LOVE. THE BEST.
Genuine Values is not just a slogan for Wellendorff, it’s how we conduct ourselves. For us, it means the responsible use of materials and our environment and a close partnership with jewellers, customers and our valued employees. The result: very special pieces of jewellery for special jewellery lovers. Our 18-karat Diamond-W is just one expression of this and the exclusive trademark of our jewellery manufactory. It adorns every single piece of Wellendorff jewellery and is a symbol of the exceptional goldsmithing expertise and philosophy of our family business.
The vision of creating perfect jewellery that would last generations once drove our founder Ernst Alexander Wellendorff when he opened his own jewellery manufactory in Pforzheim in 1893. What motivated him then, still drives us today: the pursuit of the highest quality, finest materials and durability. We take great care in choosing which materials we use, where they come from and who they come from.
We only use recycled, certified fine metal acquired from refineries in Pforzheim which undergo the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certification process and have given a commitment not to purchase, process or sell conflict gold from dubious sources. The reprocessed pure gold is fed into the precious metal cycle for the production of our jewellery.
The careful selection of gemstones is based on decades of collaboration with selected stone experts who ensure that only conflict-free diamonds are used to make our pieces of jewellery sparkle. This also means that every diamond above half a carat has an official certificate of origin from the respective country of origin from its respective country and follows the Kimberley Process, which ensures the guaranteed origins across all stages of trade.
The most beautiful form of sustainability comes from the longevity of our jewellery pieces, which are designed to be passed down and worn for decades and generations. An aspect that contrasts with the fast pace of contemporary consumption and has led us to offer a lifetime guarantee against material and manufacturing defects for each of our jewellery creations. This is proof of the quality that is upheld at the Wellendorff manufactory in Pforzheim. Signs of wear on the jewellery and any work carried out by other goldsmiths are not covered by the lifetime guarantee.
Wellendorff jewellery is made exclusively in our jewellery manufactory in Pforzheim. Since the recycled pure gold that we use is sourced locally and is manufactured step-by-step under one roof – from creating our own alloy to the finished piece of jewellery – we do not rely on transport routes and supply chains. This is Made in Germany par excellence. This is the only way we can ensure the long-term high-quality craftsmanship of our jewellery creations, which is particularly evident in the details and subtleties of our pieces. And this is why every piece of Wellendorff jewellery comes with a magnifying glass – so that you can take a closer look at all the special features and secrets of your piece of jewellery.
Each of our employees is a specialist in their field with years of experience under their belt. To ensure that it stays this way, young talents are provided with extra training and supported in the in-house Wellendorff Academy for two years. As a family business, we particularly value having a close and trusting relationship with all of our employees.
Since the company’s 100th anniversary, in addition to supporting our employees, it has also been important that we preserve traditional goldsmithing techniques. For this reason, the Ernst Alexander Wellendorff Memorial Prize is awarded annually to graduates of the master goldsmith examination.
To mark the 250th anniversary of the Pforzheim watch and jewellery industry, Wellendorff was the initiator and co-sponsor behind the founding of the luxury chair at Pforzheim University, aiming to secure the leading position and competitiveness of the industry for the future.
It is as personal as it sounds. Founded in 1893, Wellendorff can proudly look back on four generations of family history and is now the only internationally renowned jewellery manufactory to still be owned by its founding family. In 2023, our fifth generation joined the business. A sign that our Genuine Values will be continued into the next generation.
This special family history is also reflected in three jewellery creations that are inspired by personal love stories: the necklace made of silky-soft Wellendorff rope, the spinning ring and the bracelet made of flexible gold, which nestles around the wrist without a clasp. Jewellery connoisseurs refer to these jewellery icons as the world’s “softest necklace”, “most vibrant ring” and “finest bracelet”.
